Through the works of seven international artists – Fred Mungo, Lisa Sorgini, Gregg Segal, Anh Nguyen, Claire Rosen, Lucia Buricelli, and Klaus Pichler – the exhibition explores the complex relationship between individuals, society, and food culture.
Part of a broader research programme dedicated to the theme of overconsumption, the exhibition reflects on the many roles food plays as a marker of identity, ritual, and symbolism, while also examining its position as an object of desire,… accumulation, and excess. The featured works offer a range of perspectives that move between intimate and collective dimensions, encouraging critical reflection on contemporary consumption habits and the place food occupies within today’s cultural imagination. The exhibition unfolds through three thematic sections — Food as Identity, Food as Ritual, and Food as Excess — guiding visitors on a visual journey that moves beyond the mere representation of food to investigate the cultural, social, and political relationships embedded within it.
