Archea Associati
Studio Archea was founded in Florence in 1988 by Laura Andreini, Marco Casamonti, and Giovanni Polazzi, all graduates of the city’s Faculty of Architecture. In 2001, as its activities expanded, Archea Associati was established with the contribution of Silvia Fabi. The studio has carried out projects internationally and opened offices in China, the United Arab Emirates, Brazil, and Albania. Its design work ranges from objects to urban-scale projects, integrating research and academic teaching. Marco Casamonti is a Full Professor in Genoa, and Laura Andreini is an Associate Professor in Florence. The firm’s theoretical output includes essays, books, and articles published in Italy and abroad. Since 1997, Marco Casamonti has been editor-in-chief of the international architecture magazine Area, with Laura Andreini serving as deputy editor since 2002. Casamonti has also been the scientific director of the Fondazione Annali dell’Architettura e delle Città of Naples. Since 2009, Laura Andreini has served as editorial director of Forma Edizioni, a publishing house specializing in art, architecture, and design. The studio’s works have been widely published and selected for major international architecture exhibitions and events.
Lonely Living – The Architecture of Primary Space
01.07 – 08.09.2022
Eighteen Italian studios, already featured in the 8th Venice Architecture Biennale in 2002, return to reflect on the theme of minimal living. At the time, they were invited to design, at a 1:1 scale, spaces of about 16 square meters built entirely from chipboard panels. The focus was on two central issues of metropolitan life: the housing emergency and psychological loneliness. Twenty years later, the exhibition investigates the persistence and evolution of these themes, made even more relevant by the post-pandemic context.
The original projects are presented again in… digital form on 16 monitors, through videos, drawings, sketches, and photographs by Luca Campigotto and Pietro Savorelli. Each studio worked with a concrete counterpart who guided the program and objectives.
Archea Associati presents Buonasera Signor Ionda, a tribute to the artist Franco Ionda. Bruno Fioretti Marquez proposes La casa sottovuoto, a temporary, transportable dwelling that is quick to assemble. C+S Associati showcases Next Nest, a work-space designed to offer protection and concentration to a teleworker. Alberto Cecchetto signs City home for the homeless, an essential urban shelter for five people. Alfonso Cendron proposes L’al di qua, a small house immersed in greenery that meets primary needs and intimacy. 5+1 Architetti Associati presents Domus-forum, a refuge-home characterized by transparencies and alternating introverted and extroverted areas.
